What are Construction Career Days?
As more people visit or relocate to the State of Florida, the need for qualified construction workers grows. Everything from roadways to homes and shopping
centers are necessary to support the increasing population. The construction of each requires skilled workers, yet the numbers of those entering the field
is dwindling.
In order to increase the number of workers in the construction industry, transportation industry officials began an educational outreach program for high school students
in 1999. The program is designed to introduce school students to the wide range of career opportunities available to them in the construction industry in a hands-on environment.
Partner agencies and organizations responsible for the event include the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Transportation Builders Association, the Suncoast
Utility Contractors Association and the Federal Highway Administration.

On behalf of Oakleaf High School I'd like to say THANK YOU for all of your hard work
and efforts in organizing Construction Career Days. This event is truly the best field
trip we take all year! It continues to impress all who attend. We apppreciate you!
Word is quickly spreading throughout our school (by both staff and students) on how great we all
enjoyed it. We got to see so much and we didn't even see half. It makes everyone want to go back next year.
We wanted to send you a special thanks for all the effort that goes into making this event such a success.
What a valuable resource it is for our students. This was the first year attending and I was amazed. We will
be bringing a bigger group of students next year!
